I Am Not Defined
When I was in High School everyone was defined. You were defined by what you did: sports, music, drama, band, speech. You were defined by what you were: partiers, preppie, brainiac, homebody. You were defined by who you hung out with. You were defined by what others thought about you. You were defined by what others said about you.
Now that we have all grown up, nothing has really changed. We are still defined by others; what they see, what they think, and what they choose to believe. Isn't it time that we stop allowing others to define us?
I am not defined!
The clothes that I wear don't tell you who I am. The phone that I use is not a symbol of my social status. The car that I drive is nothing more than just a mode of transportation. The numbers in my bank account does not begin to define how rich I truly am.
I am not defined!
I am not defined by words spoken from those who know me least. I am not defined by an image that you, or anyone else, has of me. I am not defined by the mistakes make long ago in my past. I am not defined by any job, title, or accolade.
I am not defined, because I have been redeemed!
Because I am redeemed I am forgiven. My God no longer sees my faults or my failures. My God looks on me, as His child, and see only the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ. What the world sees as failures, my God says that I'm forgiven. What the world says is unforgiveable, my God says that I'm forgiven. I am not defined, I am forgiven…because I have been redeemed.
Because I am redeemed, I am an overcomer. My past is in the past. I no longer live chained to mistakes of yesterday. I now walk in the victory given to me as a child of the Great I AM. The world wants to tie me to my past, my God has freed me for His future. The world wants me to remember what I am done, my God wants me to see what He has for me to do. I am not defined, I am an overcomer…because I have been redeemed.
Because I am redeemed, I have a hope. My hope is not based on what I know or on what I can see. My hope is not based in anything that any of us can do. My hope is based on what Christ has already done, and on what He has promised that He will do. The world says that my hope in God is misplaced and a waste of time. My God has rewarded my hope in Him with a peace and comfort that those of this world will never experience. I am not defined, I have a hope…because I have been redeemed.
Because I am redeemed, I have a future. No matter who is in power, I have a future. No matter what the circumstance or situation, I have a future. I don't worry about my tomorrow, because I have a future. When my days on earth are done, I still have a future. No, I have an eternity in the presence of my God, and my Lord and Savior. I am not defined, I have a future…because I have been redeemed.
I am not defined, because I have been redeemed.
Don't let this world define you. You are so much more than the job you have, the car you drive, or the clothes you wear. You are not the mistakes of your past. You are not the failures of today. You are son or daughter of the Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth. You have been bought with a price; the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. You are not defined...isn't it time that you start living like the redeemed person that you are?
